45th Anniversary Celebration

Sunday, May 21
Worship Service at 9:00 a.m.
Celebration at 10:15 a.m.

From its earliest days, Abiding Presence has been a community of faith that is about the work of feeding people. Rather than throwing a party for ourselves for our 45th anniversary celebration, we’re partnering with Rise Against Hunger to pack 11,445 meals that will go to feed global partners, many of which are school feeding programs. The cost of the meals will be $4,500. When we think about who we’ve been and who we want to be as a church, this seemed like a fitting way to celebrate. Now, we need you to join us! Mark your calendar for a festive worship service (one service only) at 9:00 a.m. followed by a breakfast reception that goes right into our meal packing event.

Sign up to participate in the meal packing event or help offset the cost of the meals at: events.riseagainsthunger.org/AbidingPresenceLutheran2023

Palm Sunday Worship Opportunities

Palm Sunday, March 28
Livestream Worship Service at 10:00 a.m.
AND/OR
Interactive Palm Sunday Worship Stations with Holy Communion (Parking Lot) from 8:45-10:00 a.m. and 11:00-12:30 p.m.

Join us for our first-ever interactive, outdoor Palm Sunday worship experience! This 15-20 minute worship experience will take worshipers through four worship stations - the reading of the gospel and blessing of palms, procession and hymn singing, prayers and Holy Communion. This will be a time to gather with your household and others in the church community to experience in-person worship stations as we enter into Holy Week in a way that is safe, socially distanced and meaningful.

Mask will be worn at all times, and we ask that you maintain six feet of physical distance from those not your household. We ask those who are not feeling well or have been potentially exposed to Covid 19 to stay home and worship online. We will have our usual Sunday livestream worship at 10:00 a.m. at AbidingPresence.net/live.

Please help us plan by signing up for a 15-minute slot ahead of time for your household here.

All Saints Sunday

All Saints Sunday is Sunday, November 1

In the midst of a year of so much grief in so many different ways, we are grateful for the tradition of All Saints Sunday. All Saints Sunday offers us the opportunity to make space for the grief of those who we have lost this past year. While our traditions will look a bit different, our remembering will be the same.

On All Saints Sunday, November 1 we will remember and give thanks for the saints who have gone before us in the following ways:

  • Between 8:00 a.m. - 9:50 a.m. you can come to the parking lot to help us create an outdoor memorial area. You will have the opportunity to light a candle in memory of your loved one(s) who have died, chalk their names on the pavement and/or put a picture of them on display. This is an opportunity for us to remember all the saints who surround us in the great cloud of witnesses. Pastor Keseley and Pastor Vought will be available during this time to pray with people one-on-one from a safe distance.

  • At 9:15 a.m. we will have a brief 20 minute outdoor worship service in our memorial area. At this time, we will share scripture, prayer and read the names of the saints who have died this past year as the bell tolls in each of their honor. You can attend the service in-person practicing safe social distancing, in your car from the church parking lot listening to it on an FM radio or on our usual livestream platforms. If you would like the name read of a loved one who has died since last All Saints Sunday, please email Pastor Keseley.

  • On the livestream service at 10:00 a.m. we will share videos of our memorial area and offer a prayer in memory of the saints in the great cloud of witnesses.

  • Those wishing to prayerfully walk through the memorial area will be able to do so following livestream worship from 11:00 - 11:30 a.m.

As with all of our in-person activities, masks that cover the nose and mouth are required at all times while on the church property. We will have markers set up to help us all observe safe social distancing. If you are not feeling well or have possible exposure to COVID, we ask that you please participate only from home. If you would like a phone call from one of the pastors to pray with you, please just let us know and we are happy to make that happen.

Pajama Sunday this Sunday

The beginning of Daylight Savings Time and the loss of an hour of sleep can be a real bummer and make it hard to get up for church. Here at Abiding Presence, though, we make it something to celebrate. Join us for our annual Abiding Presence Pajama Sunday! Kids (and adults if they want, too) are invited to wear their pajamas or other comfortable clothes to church and Sunday School. Sleep in, roll out of bed and come on over for worship. Daylight Savings Time is a Sunday you don’t want to miss!

Ash Wednesday Worship

Wednesday, February 26

On Ash Wednesday we begin our Lenten journey with three worship services. All services include Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes.

12:00 noon and 7:45 p.m. - Traditional Services
6:45 - 7:15 p.m. - Children’s Service

Our OWLs (Older, Wiser Lutherans) will gather for lunch in Bailey Hall immediately following the noon service. RSVP to Sarah Snow, Congregational Care Minister here.

Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. in Bailey Hall prior to the Children’s Service. The Children’s Service is geared toward preschool through elementary school age children and their parents/caregivers. It offers kids the chance to worship with their whole bodies in age appropriate ways. They can receive the imposition of ashes on their forehead or hand. No RSVP is necessary for dinner. For questions about the Children’s Service, contact Michelle Galdames-Henry, Children & Family Minister.
